During our June meeting, we are honored to host Ryan Stewart to talk about the new version of Flash Builder, Flash, Creative Suite and a whole host of other software that Adobe recently shipped. With the release of Flash Builder 4.5 Adobe added support for building mobile applications with ActionScript and Flex for iOS, Android, and the BlackBerry PlayBook. Ryan Stewart, a developer evangelist for Adobe, will be coming to talk about the new mobile workflow and how you can use your Flex skills to deploy mobile apps across those platforms. He'll talk about the new workflows for deployment and debugging, some tips and tricks that will help you optimize your code, and some things to keep in mind as you're creating applications for all three platforms. This is one of the biggest Flex and Flash Builder releases yet and it opens up the world of mobile development to every Flex developer.
We will also be giving away a copy of Adobe Creative Suite CS5.5 in addition to many other awesome prizes!
The meeting will be held on June 23rd, 2011 on the campus of Michigan State University. We will be meeting in room 1415 in the Biomedical and Physical Sciences building located in the heart of campus at 7pm. Libations to follow the meeting. This is NOT our normal meeting location.
This meeting will not be recorded or broadcast live.

During our February 10th meeting, we will be discussing ActionLinq, a new Action Script library that has been recently released by Brian Genisio, which is a full implementation of Linq-to-Objects for Actionscript. This library makes it very easy to process data on the client. The data can come from remote service calls, http request etc. The ActionLinq library allows you to easily convert the data to different formats, sort it, transform it, apply filters to it etc.
Usage of the library will be covered in the context of several real world applications that are being developed around the MSU Physical Plant’s GIS system. These applications are based on the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex prototype application and have been heavily customized to incorporate the recently released MSU brand standards. Several custom ‘widgets’ have been developed which implement specific functionality for each application.
Attendees should come away with an overview of building customized applications using the ArcGIS Viewer for Flex and using the ActionLinq api.
We will be meeting in room 155 Communicaion Arts and Sciences, on the campus of Michigan State University. The meeting will start at 7pm.
